TIPS FOR GETTING OUT OF CREDIT CARD DEBT

Credit card debt can be an intimidating situation to get out of. You have constant payments, high interest rates, and many other expenses to worry about. You are not stuck without options. Here are some tips for getting yourself out of credit card debt:

  • Target One Card: Owing money on more than one card can be intimidating. You can become overwhelmed with trying to pay them all off at once. Instead, focus on one card at a time. Either start with the highest interest rate card first or the card with the least amount owed.

  • Consolidate Debt: Consolidating debt allows you to combine several high-interest loans into one lump sum with a lower interest rate. There are several options for this. You can transfer your balances to other cards with lower rates but beware of transfer fees. You can also take out a personal loan, using your home equity or other collateral to get a low interest rate.

  • Control Spending: Investigate your expenses. Eliminate monthly subscriptions that you do not or hardly use. Look for ways to reduce costs such as finding a new car insurance or homeowners insurance provider. If you eat takeout every day, reduce how often you do that.

  • Pay More Than Minimum: Paying only the minimum amount will take you a long time to pay off your debt. Paying more means that it will take less time to pay it off and it also allows you to pay less interest overall on your debt.
